And some other things too..
1/12/25
First of all, Happy 2025!! What the heck!! That sounds like the future. We’re living literally in the future! That’s crazy. I don’t have any serious life lessons this week so this is just good old-fashioned, stream-of-consciousness blogging.
I can’t believe the futuristic rehab tools I’m able to have access to in 2022/3/4/5 (recent years). I was just thinking today about a therapy idea I was going to pitch to the clinical trial people in February.
My entire family is made up of incredible, strong, tenacious people. They have given me something to aspire to become, and since entering adulthood, I have only joined the army of awesome that makes up my family.
My mom is the head of her IT department. Men around the globe (literally) ask her for help and what they’re supposed to do. As much as it kind of sucks that she has to be the picker-upper for grown-ass adult men, who in my opinion, have degrees and shouldn’t need to ask for help with, say, what cell to put x data point in, how awesome is it that she can succinctly say “Oh, just do XYZ and it should be fixed.” She also guided me to graduating college on time, after almost dying. She masters the futuristic rehab tools super fast. She’s a world traveler. Any spare moment she whips out a book.
My aunt, her sister, has a master’s and a doctorate in sociology. She’s a researcher at Tufts. She’s also a Leukemia survivor. She’s excellent at puzzles, board games, and other similar activities. She adopted my cousin nine years ago and has been raising her with my uncle. She’s equally as awesome.
Their mom is the most Godly woman I know. She follows her heart so well that I think God truly flows through her. She is so extraordinarily kind. She was a special education teacher for 30+ years.
My other grandma, my dad’s mom, and my boss is incredible. 83 in February, still working full time, lives independently in Houston & drives and actually just got a new car in December!!
My third grandma, my dad’s stepmom, has 12 grandchildren/nieces/nephews. She also basically runs her church.
My “little” sister studied abroad in Botswana mainly in the Spring 2024 semester is graduating from the University of Kansas a whole year early.
My “aunt” (she’s my mom’s cousin, but it’s easier to call her Aunt Carrie than “Mom’s cousin Carrie”) was discovered in Missouri at the dance college, and moved out to Las Vegas to dance professionally on the strip there, where she met her husband, my uncle Jason who is trying to revolutionize osteopathic medicine from the inside out.
My dad is one of the kindest, most helpful people. Every day, when my sister, mom, or I get home, he comes outside to help us carry our various purchases in. He is always trying to make our lives easier. He insisted he “wasn’t a cat guy” when I brought my stray home 2 years ago, but they have the most special bond now. They have little things that only they do. Not as special as mine and Midnight’s, though.
Everyone in my family is incredibly talented and out-of-this-world hysterical. In adulthood, I have developed a whole new appreciation for my family. I also appreciate the little things like redecorating the shelf above my bed in a more aesthetically pleasing way or discovering a couple of origami swans at a doctor’s office. It’s the little things that bring me joy now. Thanks for reading☺MK
